The Amethyst Group

The primary goal of the Group is:  to promote the mosaic technique, to connect the mosaic heritage to the present times, to bring together contemporary artists into a special network that will promote group exhibitions of their projects, and to give poetic guidelines for contemporary mosaic.

About The Amethyst Art Group

Amethyst The Amethyst Group was established in Belgrade, in the first year of the 21-century with the following colleagues:  Olivera Gavrić Pavić, Snežana Marinković, Petar Vujošević, Borislav Nježić and some time later Ivan Pavić, who also became a member of the core Group. The main intention of this group was to point out to the most outstanding aspects of the artistic heritage in the technique of mosaic and to advance the artistic technique. This intention has so far been realized through these projects: "Harmony of the Modern, Antique and Early Byzantine Mosaic", "A Tribute to Aleksandar Tomašević", "Contemporary Mosaic",  "An Epigraph’", "Miniature Mosaic" and "Abstract-Concrete".

Between 2001 and 2008 the Amethyst Art Group held 25 exhibitions in Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia.  We presented 12 lectures, one public workshop and held round tables on the occasion of our exhibitions.  We have published numerous texts in the field of history and poetics of mosaic, and held four interviews with prominent experts in the field of mosaic art.

Amethyst The Amethyst Group takes as a task to gather and present the work of the widest possible circle of mosaic artitsts in our country since other institutions are not  engaged in the promotion of contemporary mosaic. It was the Amethyst group’s idea to organize a gathering of painters-mosaicists in Belgrade biannually. The first larger gathering of painters, who work in this technique, was organized in 2001 when 12 artists participated in the author´s exhibition of Olivera Gavrić Pavić "Ktizma Teu" which was held in Museum of History of Yugoslavia. 14 artists took part in the exhibition "Contemporary Mosaic" in the Gallery SULUJ in Belgrade 2004. The project "An Epigraph", in 2005 had 21 participants  and "Miniature Mosaic" in 2007 had 28 participants.

In 2006, the Amethyst Art Group was the only representative of Serbia and Montenegro at the 10th International Congress of Contemporary Mosaic Artists (AIMC) held in Skopje.
